Dashboard
The dashboard is the first thing you see after importing your content into the Compositor. It gives you an overview of your project and quick access to your stories, objects, and site status.
Site preview
The top of the dashboard shows a preview of your site’s home page — including the welcome message and any featured objects. This preview updates as you make changes, so you can see how edits will look before you publish.
Welcome message
Your site’s welcome message appears on the home page and introduces your exhibition to visitors. You can edit it directly from the dashboard.
- Click the welcome message area to open the editor
- Write or update your message using the rich text toolbar
- Changes save automatically as you type
The welcome message supports basic formatting — bold, italic, links, and line breaks.
Stories
The Stories tab lists all the stories in your exhibition. From here you can manage your entire collection of narratives.
View and open stories
Each story in the list shows its title, number of steps, and current status. Click a story to open it in the Story Editor.
Create a new story
To add a new story to your exhibition:
- Click the + button or New Story in the stories tab
- Enter a title for the story
- The Compositor creates the story and opens it in the editor
Reorder stories
Stories appear on your site in the order they are listed. To change the order:
- Click and hold the drag handle next to a story
- Drag it to the desired position
- Release to drop it in place
Delete a story
To remove a story from your exhibition:
- Click the delete option on the story you want to remove
- Confirm the deletion when prompted
Deleting a story removes it from the Compositor. The deletion is not final until you publish — if you delete a story by mistake, you can re-import from your repository before publishing.
Draft and private toggles
Each story has two visibility toggles:
- Draft — Draft stories are excluded from your published site entirely. Use this for stories you are still working on.
- Private — Private stories are published but hidden from the main navigation. Visitors can only access them with a direct link. See Private Stories for details.
Project switching
If you work with multiple Telar repositories, you can switch between them without signing out.
- Click the project name or switcher in the top navigation
- Select a different repository from the list
- The Compositor loads that project’s content
Each project’s changes are stored separately in your browser.
Status bar
The bottom of the dashboard shows the current status of your project:
- Last published — When changes were last committed to GitHub
- Last synced — When content was last imported from the repository
- Live site — A direct link to your published site on GitHub Pages
